UNDERSTANDING THE PARTS OF MEDICARE
Medicare has different parts that help cover different types of healthcare services.
PART A — HOSPITAL INSURANCE
Helps cover inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care.
PART B — MEDICAL INSURANCE
Helps cover services from doctors and other healthcare providers, outpatient care, home health care, durable medical equipment, and many preventive services.
PART C — MEDICARE ADVANTAGE
Medicare Advantage is another way to receive your Medicare Part A and Part B benefits through a Medicare-approved private insurance company.
Plans must cover the services Original Medicare covers, and many plans may include additional benefits. Most Medicare Advantage plans also include Part D prescription drug coverage.
PART D — PRESCRIPTION DRUG COVERAGE
Helps cover the cost of prescription drugs. Part D coverage is offered through Medicare-approved private insurance companies.
| Medicare Part | What It Generally Covers |
|---|---|
| Part A | Hospital and certain inpatient-related services. |
| Part B | Doctors, outpatient care, durable medical equipment, and many preventive services. |
| Part C | Medicare Advantage plans that provide Part A and Part B benefits through Medicare-approved private insurers. |
| Part D | Prescription drug coverage through Medicare-approved private insurers. |
ONE MEDICARE PROGRAM. DIFFERENT PIECES.
Understanding what A, B, C, and D do makes it much easier to understand your Medicare coverage choices.
Heritage Health Advisors can help you put the pieces together.
